Industry mourns the passing of media veteran George John

George John

Founder of Anthem, the man who brought TBWA to India, passed away, leaving behind the memories of his works.

For the unquainted, George John started off his career as a Maths teacher at St.Theresa’s in Mumbai. A career spanning into four decades, his first stint at advertising started with Lintas where he joined as a media planner in 1969. Six years later, he moved to account management in the company and handled HUL’s most successful and essential brands like Fair & Lovely, Liril, Close-up, etc. After 10 years at Lintas, he joined Ulka (now FCB-Ulka) and soon reached the top.

K.George John founded Anthem, Delhi in 1988. He eventually joined TBWA and essentially laid the foundation of the agency in India in 1998.

George John rebuilt national agencies like Ulka and worked on iconic brands with bringing Sony Products to India. He retired in 2008 and lived in South Kochi.
