BARC Data: Second week in a row, Dangal tops free list, STAR Plus retains spot in pay platforms

Week 28: For the second week in line, BARC India released separate data for free and pay platforms. While Dangal maintained it’s position in the list of free Hindi GEC platforms with 5,92,617 impressions, STAR Plus (6,67,011 impressions) topped in the list of pay platforms.

Both Dangal (free) and STAR Plus (pay) saw an increase in the weekly impressions in Week 28 for they were at 5,38,437 and 6,62,073 impressions last week respectively. In the list where free and pay platforms are taken together, Dangal tops with 7,60,323 impressions, followed by STAR Plus (6,70,964).

Second in the list for free platforms is BIG Magic (3,94,845 impressions), followed by DD National (44,911), DD Bharati (3,364), DD Arunprabha (2,962), DD Uttar Pradesh (2,550), DD Madhya Pradesh (2,371) and DD Rajasthan (1,845) — in that order.

In the case of channels in the list of pay platforms, the second position was bagged by Zee TV at 6,45,303 impressions, followed by Sony SAB (5,13,837), Colors (5,09,731), Sony Entertainment Television (4,73,292), STAR Bharat (3,29,586), Dangal (1,67,706), STAR Utsav (1,53,261), Sony Pal (1,35,622) and &TV (1,24,072) — in that order.

A Free Connection is one where the household incurs only a small one-time fee for installing the set-top box. The household does not pay any monthly subscription fee. Whereas, a Pay connection is one where the subscriber invests an initial amount for installation and an on-going monthly subscription fee.

In the Hindi Speaking Markets, 2 out of 10 homes are Free Homes, accounting for almost 140 Mn TV viewing Individuals. The Pay & Free viewer differs significantly not only in terms of demographics but also their characteristics, values, lifestyle and psychographics.
