In a recent development, Byju’s restores Oppo on Indian jersey, commencing with India’s South Africa’s tour.
Oppo the Chinese mobile maker had a whopper bid of 1,790 Crore for the jersey rights for a period of five years. But the brand now finds the value acquired “extremely high” and “unsustainable”, following which Byju’s – Bangalore-based educational technology and online tutoring firm takes over, according to online reports.
Team India will flaunt the Oppo logo on their jerseys till the West Indies tour which commences from August 3 and ends on September 2. Once the South Africa tour begins Byju will take over the jersey.
Commenting on the development Oppo said in a press statement, “OPPO India would like to thank Team India and BCCI for a meaningful association that led the brand to become a household name in just five years of operations in India. As OPPO enters into its sixth year, India will continue to remain a key growth market. To meet rapidly growing consumer demand, OPPO will accelerate its efforts on local Production, R&D and Retail. This will help OPPO bolster its commitment to offer Indian consumers cutting-edge technology and a premium experience.”
It is also reported that BCCI will continue to have the same aggregate as before and hence will not be at any loss. This stands the entire duration of the deal that ends March 31, 2022.
Oppo was earlier paying 4.61 Crore per bilateral match and 1.56 Crore for an ICC event match. Before that, STAR India used to pay Rs 1.92 crore per bilateral match and Rs 61 lakh for an ICC match.
