Toilet Soaps lead in GEC with 9% Ad Volume share: TAM

TAM data indicates that toilet soaps, washing powders and shampoos maintained their rank by being among the top 10 categories of ad share in GEC Genre.

TAM AdEx-Mirroring Y 2020 for Advertising in GEC Genre highlights the top trending brands in 2020 for the GEC, categories with most ad share volume, commercial advertising, Lockdown vs Unlockdown trends and advertising on national and regional GEC channels.

As consumers were keener on hand hygiene during the pandemic, the report shows that True Shield Hand Sanitiser was the top brand from April – June 2020 and August 2020 in GEC.

The Personal care sector topped with a 25% share of ad volumes followed by F&B with a 22% share. Toilet Soaps topped with 9% Ad Volumes’ share among the top 10 Categories under GEC Genre in Y 2020.

According to the report, regional and national channels acquired 77% and 23% share of ad volumes respectively during both the years (2019-20). A 74% growth was seen in the average ad volumes/day during the Unlockdown period as compared to the lockdown period.

Looking at the top brands during 2020, Clinic Plus Shampoo led the list, followed by Lux Toilet Soap and Santoor Sandal and Turmeric. The top 10 brands together added a 10% share of ad volumes throughout the year.
