MUMBAI: Vikas Khanna has added another remarkable milestone to an already illustrious career, earning a place on one of the globe’s most respected lists. The celebrated Indian chef, restaurateur, author, filmmaker, and philanthropist has been included in the 2026 Time100, the annual roster compiled by Time recognizing the world’s 100 most influential people.
An eight-time Michelin-starred culinary visionary, Vikas Khanna has been instrumental in elevating Indian cuisine on the international stage, blending tradition, culture, and storytelling into experiences that resonate far beyond the dining table. His newest venture, Bungalow, has quickly emerged as one of New York’s most talked-about restaurants, offering diners an immersive celebration of India’s diverse heritage and flavors. Before that, his acclaimed restaurant Junoon helped redefine perceptions of fine Indian dining and earned Michelin recognition for multiple consecutive years.
Khanna’s influence extends well beyond the culinary world. In India, he became a familiar and beloved face through his role as a judge on MasterChef India, where his encouraging presence and passion for food inspired aspiring chefs across the country. As an author, he has written more than 41 books, preserving and celebrating the richness of Indian culinary traditions through extensive research and storytelling.
His creative pursuits have also flourished in cinema. Khanna stepped behind the camera with his directorial debut, The Last Color, a critically acclaimed project that showcased his storytelling abilities beyond the kitchen. He is now preparing for the release of his latest film, Imaginary Rain, a culinary drama set in New York that is scheduled to premiere later this year.
Yet perhaps some of Khanna’s most meaningful contributions have come through his humanitarian work. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his Feed India initiative delivered meals to more than 30 million people across 135 cities, providing vital support during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. He also continues to lead the non-profit South Asian Kid’s Infinite Vision, reflecting his long-standing commitment to community service and social impact.
Reacting to the recognition, Khanna expressed gratitude to the family members who shaped his journey.
“Being on the 2026 TIME100 list of the most influential people in the world is a matter of immense pride for me. I owe this recognition to my grandmother, mother, and sister—they always believed in me, and it is their sacrifices, blessings, and guidance that have helped me reach where I am today. This achievement is a victory for India and our culinary legacy that is appreciated by people across the world. With this honour, I hope to inspire the people of my country to follow their ambition and represent India on the global stage.”
The complete Time100 list and accompanying tributes appear in the April 27, 2026 edition of Time magazine and are also available online.
